"So Am I " by Ava Max
So Am I is the title of a 2019 single by American singer and songwriter Ava Max.
The lyrics of
So Am I see the narrator (Ava Max) telling her listeners that regardless of how they are, it is okay to be different. She encourages the listener not to be worried about feeling like a misfit or an outcast, for there is nothing inherently wrong with not fitting into the format. She assures the listener that they are perfect just the way God made them. Owing to this, they should never bother to try to fit in.
This is a self-empowering song whose lyrics are designed to boost the listener's confidence and make them love and embrace themselves even more.
The song stands to be a cause for all the different persons, outcasts and misfits of the society. In the song, Ava Max calls these people unique and categorizes herself as one of them, thus giving the inspiration for the song title.
The music video for
So Am I presents some people who would be classed misfits in our perfectionist society. An African American male, a ginger-haired girl, a girl with the skin condition vitiligo, a guy with braided hair, homosexuals, and different ethnicities.
Ava Max says it's normal for people to whisper about your differences from across the room. This simply means that you are worth their time and attention.
In the second verse of
So Am I, Ava Max shouts out to several mainstream misfits of the world. She shouts out to the story of Sid and Nancy(a member of the band Sex Pistols and his girlfriend with a sad story). She also makes a reference to "Killer Queen", a global hit from the Rock band Queen, the lead singer, Freddie Mercury, was a massive misfitHYPERLINK "http://justrandomthings.com/2018/11/24/queen-killer-queen-lyrics-meaning-and-song-analysis/"HYPERLINK "http://justrandomthings.com/2018/10/27/watch-the-epic-online-trailer-for-bohemian-rhapsody-movie-biopic-of-queen/" from the society due to his bi-sexual tendencies.
In the same verse, Ava Max calls themselves “sinners and blessings.” In the eyes of the society and religions, they are sinners for being different on the outside. But most of the time, they have been blessings on this earth, much better than the ordinary Joes.
There's also a reference to Harley Quinn,  a fictional character appearing in  famous  American comic books, Harley Quinn is a frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker in Batman's Adventures.
